The short version
A missed call to your business is an inquiry. Texting back to answer that inquiry is conversational messaging — not a marketing blast. RingCatch only ever texts in response to a missed call, from registered numbers, with automation disclosed and STOP honored. That's the whole compliance story in one paragraph. The details are below.
Registered A2P 10DLC numbers
US and Canadian carriers require businesses to text from registered 10-digit long code (10DLC) numbers — brand registration, campaign registration, vetting. Unregistered traffic gets filtered; registered traffic gets delivered. RingCatch handles the entire registration for every client number. You never fill out a carrier form.
Every automated text discloses itself
This is non-negotiable for us. Every text RingCatch sends identifies itself as automated, up front, in plain language — e.g. "Hi, this is the automated assistant for Mike's Garage Door." No fake names, no pretending to be the receptionist. Customers deserve to know when they're talking to software. (Why we take this stance →)
Consent: the missed call is the inquiry
Under the TCPA, conversational texts responding to a customer's inquiry don't require the same prior express written consent as marketing messages. Someone who just called your business asked to hear from your business. RingCatch keeps every thread tightly scoped to that inquiry — what they called about, booking the job — and never pivots into promotions.
STOP means stop, immediately
Every text includes opt-out instructions. Replying STOP — or STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT — immediately stops further automated texts to that number, and the opt-out is confirmed by text. Opt-outs are honored at the platform level, so there's no way for a shop to accidentally text someone who opted out.
No marketing blasts, ever
RingCatch has no bulk-send feature. It cannot be used for promotional campaigns, cold outreach, or "just checking in" blasts. One missed call, one conversational thread, scoped to the job. That's the product.
Note
This page describes our practices, not legal advice. SMS regulations (TCPA, CTIA guidelines, carrier policies) change; if your shop has unusual texting needs, talk to a telecom attorney. For the standard missed-call textback use case, the practices above are the industry-standard compliant setup.
